Privacy & Terms
Last updated October 14, 2026
In short: your transactions, balances, and tax details stay on your device. There are no accounts and no analytics. If you join a test group, the app sends one count a day with nothing in it that identifies you. The app gives planning estimates, not financial, investment, or tax advice.
Who we are
Ramen to Runway is run by an independent developer in Missouri, in the United States, and is built for people in the United States. If you use it from somewhere else, the information described here is handled in the United States.
Every server involved
- This site, hosted by Cloudflare, is the only server the app talks to. It serves the app, looks up prices and company names, keeps encrypted backups if you turn them on, passes along Contact us messages, and schedules reminders if you turn them on.
- Behind this site, only for those features: Yahoo Finance and CoinGecko for prices and searches (and Finnhub, if this site turns it on); Resend for Contact us email; Google, Apple, Mozilla, or Microsoft push services for reminders (your browser signs up with its own push service directly); and Charles Schwab or Coinbase only if you connect an account there.
- Sites you open yourself, such as a student deal, a map search near campus, or an official site like the IRS or studentaid.gov, open in your browser only when you tap them.
- Nothing else. The app loads no fonts, scripts, ads, or analytics from other companies.
What stays on your device
Everything you enter (transactions, account cash, other assets and debts, your tax profile, your net-worth history, your practice account, your check-in streak, and your income, spending, bills, subscriptions, budgets, cards, loans, shared costs, goals, habits, and notes) is saved in your browser's local storage on the device you use. It is not sent to us, and we have no copy. Clearing your browser's site data, or choosing Clear all data in Settings, deletes it permanently. Use Export backup in Settings to keep your own copy.
Cloud backup (optional)
If you turn on cloud backup, the app encrypts a copy of your data on your device (AES-256) with a key made from a recovery code that only you see. Our server stores that encrypted copy, a fingerprint used to check that updates come from you, when it last changed, and a random label for the latest save, so your devices can tell which one saved last. We can’t read the copy or recover your code, so a lost code means the backup can’t be opened. Turning cloud backup off deletes the copy, and so does choosing “Delete it too” when you clear your data. A backup that isn’t updated for 400 days is deleted automatically; the app backs up whenever you use it, so this only removes backups nobody uses.
Limits against abuse. To stop anyone from filling the server with fake backups or reminders, or flooding Contact us, it counts how many new backups and reminder sign-ups each network starts in a day, and how many messages it sends in an hour. It counts by a one-way fingerprint of the network address and the date or hour, not the address itself, and deletes each count within two days.
Goal photos. Optional goal photos are resized on your device and saved with your goals. They are included in exported backups and, if enabled, your encrypted cloud backup. Removing a photo removes it from future backups; copies you previously exported still contain it.
What reaches our server
- Price quotes. To show current prices, the app sends ticker symbols (for example, VOO or BTC-USD) to our server, which looks them up with Yahoo Finance or CoinGecko. Only the symbol is sent: never quantities, values, or anything that identifies you.
- Optional live account sync. If you choose to connect a Charles Schwab or Coinbase account, you sign in on that company's own site; we never see your password. The access it grants is read-only. The resulting access token is encrypted and stored in a secure, HTTP-only cookie on your device, not on our server. Balances and positions are fetched when you sync, shown to you, and not stored by us. Select Disconnect to delete the cookie, and revoke access from your Schwab or Coinbase account settings at any time.
- Bank files you import. A bank or card file you choose is read on your device and never uploaded. Categories you teach it for stores are saved on your device too.
- App lock. If you turn on the lock, Face ID, your fingerprint, or your phone’s passcode is checked by your phone itself through a passkey kept on this device. We never see it, and it isn’t sent anywhere. A PIN, if you use one instead, is stored only as a one-way hash on this device.
- Pictures you share. Pictures of your month, a goal, a finished challenge, or a snapshot for your family are drawn on your device. They go only where you send them, and they never include your balance or what you owe; you choose whether they show dollar amounts.
- Challenge invites. An invite link to a challenge holds only which challenge it is, the day it starts, and a first name if you type one. The name sits after the “#” in the link, a part browsers never send to a server, so it never reaches ours. Each person checks off their own days on their own phone, and nothing about your money is in the link.
- Student deals. The school and city you enter to find student discounts stay on your device. Tapping a deal or a “near campus” search opens that company’s site, or Google Maps or Search, with your city or school in the search; nothing is sent until you tap.
- Messages you send. If you use Contact us, your message, an email address for a reply if you choose to give one, and device details if you leave them included (app version, screen size, browser, and whether the app is installed) are emailed to us through our email provider, Resend. None of your money data is included, and our server keeps no copy. Resend keeps a copy for a limited time under its own policy, and the message stays in our email inbox so we can answer it. Ask us and we’ll delete your message and email address. If Contact us isn’t set up on this site, it opens an email in your own mail app instead.
- Company and option searches. When you search for a stock by name or look at option prices, the name or ticker you type is sent to our server and looked up with Yahoo Finance. Nothing about you or your holdings is sent.
- Optional daily reminders. If you turn on reminders, your browser creates a push address for this device (issued by Google, Apple, Mozilla, or Microsoft), and we store it with your reminder time, your time zone, the date you last opened the app (so we don't remind you on days you already checked in), and the dates of upcoming bill or free-trial alerts. We never receive what the bills are or how much they cost; your device fills that in when the reminder arrives. Reminders never include your balances. Turning reminders off, or a push service reporting the address as expired, deletes this record, and so do 120 days without opening the app; opening it again turns reminders back on. On some Android devices reminders run entirely on the device and nothing is stored.
- Test group counts, only if you join. See Test groups below.
- Standard request logs. Like any website, our hosting provider may briefly keep technical logs such as IP addresses and request times for security and reliability. We don't use them to track or profile you.
Test groups (only if you join)
Sometimes we invite students to try the app for a few weeks. Only people who open an invite link, or type its code in Settings, and then choose Join are in a test group. Once a day, when the app is opened, it sends one count with only this:
- the group code;
- how many days since you joined;
- whether you’ve finished setup;
- whether you added or imported anything since the last count;
- whether it’s an iPhone, an Android phone, or something else;
- whether you opened it from your Home Screen;
- whether it’s your first count, or your first after one or two weeks.
A count has no ID, no dates, no amounts, and no network address. Nothing in it says who sent it, or which other counts came from the same phone. Every count in a group is deleted 30 days after the test ends. To stop, choose Leave test group in Settings, or Clear all data. Counts already sent can’t be picked out, so they’re deleted with the rest of the group.
What we don't do
- No user accounts, advertising, analytics, or tracking scripts. The one exception is the daily count from a test group you choose to join.
- No selling or sharing of your data. We don't have it to share.
- No trades, transfers, or changes to any connected account. Access is read-only. The Practice lab uses pretend money only.
How we respond to Do Not Track
Ramen to Runway doesn’t track you across other sites or apps, and doesn’t let other companies track you here. So there is nothing for a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal to turn off: every visit is treated as if one were on.
Your age, and children
Ramen to Runway is meant for people 13 and older who are learning to manage their own money. It is not directed to children under 13.
Before cloud backup or restore, reminders, Contact us, or a test group can send personal information, the app asks for your birth month and year and lets you review it before saving. The answer and any parent-permission confirmation stay on your device and are never included in backups or sent to us. Existing connected features pause until this review is complete. If the answer shows you’re under 13, those features stop sending. The app removes the online backup and reminder record associated with this device and leaves its test group. If removal fails, it keeps the information needed to retry on this device, shows that online deletion is pending, and retries when you reconnect or reopen the app. Your local money records remain available, and you can save a backup file. Price lookups and public information still work as described above.
The app has no accounts, no ads, and no analytics (apart from the anonymous count for a test group someone chooses to join), and we don’t collect names or ages. If you’re a parent or guardian and think a child under 13 sent us something, email us and we’ll delete it. If you are under 18, use the app with a parent’s or guardian’s permission. The app asks you to confirm that permission before connected features can be used; this is not an identity or parental-verification service. Investing accounts are usually opened by a parent, so check the numbers here with them.
Settings → Age and connected features shows the answer saved on this device. If a mistaken answer restricts connected features, a parent or guardian can email us to request help correcting it without clearing the money records. The request does not automatically change the answer or remove restrictions. Don’t send financial records, identity documents, or recovery codes with a correction request.
Your choices
Everything on your device is yours to change or delete: Clear all data in Settings deletes it, turning off cloud backup deletes the online copy, and turning off reminders deletes the reminder record. To have a message you sent us deleted, email us.
Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use Ramen to Runway, and we aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Every button and field has a label for screen readers, the whole app works with a keyboard, text size can be changed in Settings, and the app follows your device’s dark mode and reduced-motion settings. If something is hard to use, tell us through Contact us or by email, and we’ll work on it.
Terms of use
- Estimates, not advice. Ramen to Runway is a planning tool. Its tax figures are estimates based on what you enter and on simplifying assumptions described in the app. It is not financial, investment, legal, or tax advice, and it does not replace your broker's 1099 forms or a qualified professional. You are responsible for your own investment decisions and tax filings.
- Who can use it. You must be 13 or older to use the features that send information to this site. If you’re under 18, use Ramen to Runway with a parent’s or guardian’s permission.
- Safe to spend is an estimate. Safe to spend and every other number in the app come from what you enter. They aren’t your bank’s balance and don’t guarantee that money is there. Check your bank before you spend.
- Accuracy. Prices come from third-party sources and may be delayed or wrong. Calculations can only be as complete as the transactions you record.
- As is. The app is free and provided as is, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses, or for lost money or data, arising from its use, and our total liability for any claim about the app is limited to $50.
- Changes to the app. We may change, pause, or stop any feature. You can export your data from Settings at any time, and you can stop using the app whenever you like.
- Missouri law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri and applicable U.S. federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute not brought in small claims court will be heard only in the state or federal courts located in Missouri, and you and we agree to those courts. Nothing here takes away rights the law where you live gives you and doesn’t let a contract remove.
- Not affiliated. Ramen to Runway is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., Coinbase, Inc., Robinhood, Fidelity, or any other brokerage, exchange, or data provider named in the app. Their names only identify the services you can track with the app, and their trademarks belong to their owners.
Changes
If this policy or these terms change, we'll update the date above. Material changes will also be noted in the app. Using the app after a change means you accept the new version.
